History

Our aim for history is to help pupils gain an understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.  We want to inspire curiosity about the past and enable children to ask and answer questions about their own past and that of others. We equip our children to ask perceptive questions, think critically and weigh evidence to help them understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, diversity of societies, and relationships between different groups. This in turn helps our children understand their own identity and the challenges of their time. Our goal is to make history come alive for our children, create engaging units of study, and help our children apply lessons from the past in their day-to-day lives. Seeing, touching, and experiencing history first hand makes an impression on our children. We engage our children’s interest with props, artefacts, experiences and visits. Local educational off-site visits are also organised to museums. Our curriculum reflects and follows the National Curriculum and Early Learning Goals for EYFS, these both include worldwide, British and many local area topics.

Year 3 visit Blists Hill - 2022

Year 5 and 6 collaboratively work on the History of the Queen - Jubilee 2022

I really enjoyed learning about Robert Falcon Scott because he was so great getting to the Pole.

Year 2 (July 2022)

History is important to see old life styles and how we have evolved from it. I enjoyed learning about the Vikings because it is relatable, about our country.

Year 6 (July 2022)

It is fun to see what people used to do, like when we were at Blists Hill.
