Our curriculum at Mosley is wonderfully creative! We follow the National Curriculum, but we utilise topics and themes that are meaningful and exciting for our children. This creative curriculum allows all of our children to make links across subjects, embed learning into the long term memory, be inquisitive and develop a real love of learning.
We take the children on a wide range of educational visits that enhance our creative curriculum, which have included recently:- Drayton Manor; Lunt Roman Fort; ThinkTank; Blists Hill Museum; Churnet Valley Railway Evacuee Experience; Derby Open Centre and Worship Trail; St. George's Park; Shugborough Outdoor Education Centre.
In the Early Years we follow Letters and Sounds, as well as Phonics Play to support our daily teaching of phonics.
Our Reception and Key Stage One reading scheme is a combination of Oxford Reading Tree and Collins Big Cat.
The children receive homework, which increases as they move through the school. All children are expected to read at home regularly, as well as practice times tables. Children will be set English and maths homework regularly in Year 3 onwards. Homework should take no longer than 20 minutes, so please don't let the completion of homework become a 'battle'! We also realise that children need time to be children after school and we really want them to have time with parents, brothers and sisters to talk, listen to each other and play and share together. Spending quality time with your children is just as important!
